I’m James Marson and I created the Writer’s Toolkit to share some of the many, many resources I’ve come across in my journey through writing.

I have worked in the UK TV industry for over fifteen years. My job has been to buy and promote the best British TV programmes around. I’ve worked with streamers where I bought and curated over four thousand hours of British programming.

But I’m a writer at heart, and over my years practising my writing – sometimes seriously, sometimes, I will admit, half-heartedly – I have uncovered a vast pool resources out there. It took me a long time to amass this list and wanted to share it with you. If you want to dive in and follow what I’ve called The Marson Method then please click here

I’m not guaranteeing using or following any of these techniques will get you a screenplay deal or a published novel. Who knows what magical formula will make that happen. But to have any chance of making it in the industry, you do at least have to have written something. Then probably re-written it. Several times.

That’s when these resources come in useful

It doesn’t matter whether you are just thinking about writing – a story, a novel, a screenplay – if you are fascinated by how stories work, and are open to some insight, then you’ve come to the right place.

As a final note, all of this material is meant to be inspirational, not prescriptive. I don’t believe there is a right way to be creative, just things that help unlock that creativity.

Mostly I hope you enjoy.

Please feel free to message me if you have any comments about any of the material here.
